How did you first get involved in athletics?
“I first got involved in athletics through my local club, some 30 years ago at Blackpool, Wyre & Fylde AC. I enjoyed trying different events and quickly realised I loved the challenge of pushing myself and improving. What started as something fun soon became something I really committed to, and athletics has been a big part of my life ever since.”
What has been your proudest moment in athletics so far?
“My proudest moment was winning my first World Masters gold medal at my first international competition. Competing on that stage for the first time and coming away with gold meant a huge amount to me. It was followed by many more World and European medals, which made the journey even more rewarding.”
What are your long-term goals in athletics?
“My long-term goal is to keep improving, stay competitive, and continue enjoying the sport for as long as possible. I want to keep challenging myself and show that athletics can be something you stay passionate about at any age.”
Who are your role models in athletics?
“There have been many athletes who have inspired me along the way, but my absolute role model is Katarina Johnson-Thompson. I really admire her resilience and mindset, especially the way she’s come back from setbacks and continued to perform at the highest level. Competing in the same event as her in 2024 was a dream come true and will always be one of my highlights.”
What does being a Kukri Sports Ambassador mean to you?
“Being a Kukri Sports Ambassador means representing a brand that supports athletes at all levels. For me, it’s about promoting athletics in a positive way, being proud of the sport I compete in, and representing values like commitment, resilience and enjoyment.”
What do you hope to achieve in your role?
“I hope to inspire others to get involved in athletics and show that the sport is for everyone. I’d like to represent Kukri in a genuine way through my performances, attitude, and help in the athletics community, encouraging people to stay active and confident in sport.”
