Meet the YTP Ambassadors
Amy Thompson
What athletics club and school/college are you associated to?
“I am between clubs at the moment under Wigan Harriers currently but have moved to Liverpool Pembroke.”
What event do you compete in?
“I compete in Discus and Shot Put. At a very young age I joined the DSAuk, which is a sports charity for children and adults with dwarfism in sport and they do a national game once a year. I began throwing a tennis ball aged just three, and that became a cricket ball and then onto a shot put eventually. The frisbee throw become a Discus and I found what I was good at and, most importantly, I enjoyed throwing as you get immediate results, but it’s not as easy as it looks!”
What is your Personal Best and what is your greatest achievement?
“My Personal Best in Discus is 22.77m and shot put 7.62m. I would say my greatest achievement is when I competed at the 2022 World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Italy in May.”
What are your goals and aspirations?
“My ambition is to go to the Paralympics and to compete abroad more often. I have always wanted to go to the Paralympics since I began throwing at club level and have kept an eye on the World records for both events. My aim is to beat them one day as I know I have the ability and determination to do it.”
What motivates you?
“I love seeing other athletes achieve their dreams. In general, I love seeing everyone succeed, whether it is medals on the podium or PBS, especially in Disability sport, as I know how much it takes to achieve our goals.”
Who is your athletics idol?
“My idol is Katarina Johnson Thompson. She was the first person in Athletics I followed from the Olympics. She is also from Liverpool like me, and I am amazed by heptathletes, I think it is an amazing all-round sport and I respect how difficult it is to be that good at all of the events.”
