Meet the YTP Ambassadors
Jess Bailey
What athletics club and school/college are you associated to?
“I attend Ulverston Victoria High School where I am studying A Levels in Maths, Chemistry and Biology. My club is Leven Valley AC, which is a small club focusing on junior athletes and endurance running – we do Cross country and mountain running with a bit of track in the summer.”
What event do you compete in?
“I compete in most endurance running events, 1500m and 3000m on the track, cross country, mountain running and a 5k road race now and again.”
What is your Personal Best and what is your greatest achievement?
“My Personal Best for 3000m is 9:19 and for 5k its 16:22. In terms of my greatest achievement, I’m really proud of my silver medal for 3000m at the U18 European Championships this year, as well as my World U20 Champion title at the World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in Thailand a few weeks ago.”
What are your goals and aspirations?
“Over the next few years, I just want to try and keep progressing and eventually hope to become a professional athlete. In the short term, I hope to be able to represent GB in cross country and possibly be selected to go to the Commonwealth Youth Games.”
What motivates you?
“I am motivated by lots of different things, but mainly by the fact that I am extremely competitive and enjoy having something to focus on and train for. I also just love running.”
Who is your athletics idol?
“It feels like there are too many Athletics idols to choose from, however, Jess Judd has always been one of my favourites. She managed to progress from a very successful young junior athlete to a professional athlete which is really impressive! With most people not making the transition from a successful junior athlete to a senior athlete, it is great to have role models that prove it is possible.”
