An inspirational rugby documentary about U.S. rugby players and their battle to play the game they love for their country has been given the Kukri stamp of approval.
'Try' is the true story of three talented, yet very different, U.S. rugby players who sacrificed it all for the chance to represent their country at the Rugby World Cup. The film also takes a look at the history of the RWC and the history of rugby in the United States.
Kukri USA Director, Murray Allen, commented: 'This is a great film...and very inspirational to see what a USA Rugby player and indeed all players from those 'second tier' World Cup squads have to go through to play the game they love and compete against the fully professional sides.'
Director Grace Farah believes the story of sacrifice will inspire the most hardened of cynics as each player endures hardship, holds down a full-time job and battles injuries and personal tragedy for their one shot to become a `USA Eagle'.
'No Money. No Fame. Just the love of the game, that is the spirit of rugby.'
The three players showcased in the film are a former amateur wrestler who came within seconds of realizing his Olympic dream. Dan Payne has one final chance to complete a pact he made with his brother to make the USA Rugby team and represent his country at the highest levels of sport.
Latu Paloka is an Iraq war veteran, whose best friend died in his arms after being ambushed while on patrol. His goal is to make the national squad in honour of his fallen friend and to give the military a much needed morale boost and Jarvis Albury is a brilliant athlete and vivacious personality who always looks to the future despite his tough past. He has turned down lucrative opportunities with other professional sports for the chance to compete on the sport's biggest international stage.
