Cricket is the latest sport to be taking China by storm and as always Kukri is at the forefront of the revolution having just signed the national team.
Although still in it's infancy in China- with the national organisation only just two years old - it's growing fast with 115 teams already playing regularly. The British originally introduced cricket to China in 1858 but it had all but disappeared in 1949 and Kukri is hoping to help fuel it's resurgence.
Kukri's Managing Director, Robert Perkins, commented: "Sport is fast becoming a huge national obsession in China led by soccer, basketball, Formula One and fuelled by the tremendous investment and build up to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Kukri sees great opportunity in supporting the development of cricket in China as new, exciting formats such as Twenty:20, Cricket Sixes and Womens cricket broaden the appeal of the game, grow participation and the fan base. Kukri want to be early supporters of this exciting sporting revolution in China."
Meanwhile, Perkins and Kukri Asia Sales Manager, Simon Leung, were at the ninth successive Shanghai Cricket Sixes event and dinner this weekend where the speaker was former England Captain Allan Lamb who also took part in a Q & A panel. England's Chris Lewis was also there along with West Indies' Phil Simmons and Aussies Dean Jones and Colin "Funky" Miller.
The auction of signed bats, other cricket memorabilia and tree planting pledges at the dinner raised a whopping £13,000 for 'Roots & Shoots' - a carbon offset tree-planting charity.
As for the action on the field - the Cup Final was won by the 'Hot Dogs Cricket Club' for the third year running after they beat the 'Shanghai Devils Cricket Club' by 47 to 46. The Plate was won by the 'Beijing Ducks' and the winners of the Bowl were the 'Knight Frank Tigers'.
