Lions and Lilac Centre Team Up

Eccleston Lions A.R.L.F.C. proved that 'real men wear pink' as they launched their new hot pink Kukri strip yesterday. The launch took place at the Lilac Centre, St Helens Hospital, and we were there to get a good look!

The inspiration for the kit came when Lions' coach Lee Hurst's wife, Marie, was diagnosed with cancer in 2010. She was subsequently treated at the Lilac Centre and the Lions were inspired to 'go pink' for their new jersey in support of a cause that has become close to their hearts.

Lions' coach Lee Hurst explained, "The idea came about after my wife was treated here. It's such a fantastic place to be treated and a really worthwhile cause for us to support. The kit looks fantastic and the boys can't wait to wear it."

Marie praised the great work done at the Centre. "It's a great place and a great cause. As well as the standard treatment, patients also receive therapies such as massage, yoga and reiki. It's going to be amazing watching the boys playing in hot pink - my favourite colour!"

Yesterday morning, the club presented a cheque for over a thousand pounds which they have generated from their various fundraising adventures so far - as well as showing off their striking new kit which they will wear for the first time on the 3rd September away at Wigan Bulldogs.

Kukri's Marketing Manager Adam Lewis adds "We're really proud of Eccleston Lions and the money they have raised for this fantastic centre. The team knew exactly how they wanted their shirt to look for the 2011/12 season and we are just glad we could help to create this unique look with them. A big thank you to coach Lee Hurst for inviting us to the presentation at the Lilac Centre, it was a real honour for us to be part of the day. Finally we want to say a good luck to the team for the upcoming season, they're a great bunch of lads and we know they're going to do great in the North West Counties league."
