Title success for Swansea Uni Basketball 1sts!
Congratulations to Swansea Uni Men's Basketball 1sts on securing both the Western 2B League title and promotion! They sealed the achievement with a 71-50 win over Aberystwyth which put the finishing touches to a great season.

The team were in control of the league from the very beginning, displaying fluid, counterattacking basketball - and claiming maximum points out of all their games.

Captain Leo Gould was full of praise for the way the team have conducted themselves throughout the season. "Our goal at the start of the year was to win the league and we did it comfortably, which is a great result," he said. "Since I first came here we've always been looking to get promoted out of this league and we've finally got around to it."

Their attention will now turn to next season - with trips to Bournemouth and Southampton Uni, as well as the small matter of a clash with rivals Cardiff 1sts all on the horizon.

"Those are all going to be big road trips and we?ll look forward to those, especially Cardiff," Leo said. "But I hope we'll get one over on them in Varsity before then."

The Varsity clash takes place on 2nd May and the League title is the perfect preparation, and Leo is looking forward to the test against their soon-to-be-league opposition. "You couldn't have much better preparation than winning the league," he said. "We'd like to play some stronger teams but it'll give everyone confidence going into the game. There's no reason for them to be worried about how they're going to perform out there."

Men's Basketball at Swansea has been booming this season, and the 1sts Title success is just the tip of the iceberg. The 2nd team sit 4th in the league, and are still in contention for promotion themselves. "It's a big ask," Leo admitted. "It's not out of the question but it really does depend on the intake next year. The 2nds team is likely to remain very similar next year, so it'll depend on the other teams in the league as well and how they're fairing next year."

And for the 1sts next season? Their aim will be to consolidate their position within the Western 1A division - a target which the skipper believes is achievable. "We're very realistic because we lose a lot of guys at the end of the year, so our goal next year will be to shoot for mid-table in the BUCS League next year."

Congratulations to Leo and the lads on a fantastic achievement and good luck in the weeks and months ahead - starting with the Varsity clash against Cardiff on May 2nd. For The Team!
