Somerset Triumphant Over Lancashire In Kukri Derby

Marcus Trescothick led from the front with a 69-ball century as Kukri clad Somerset beat fellow Kukri kitted Lancashire by seven wickets at Taunton to make it maximum points from five Clydesdale Bank 40 games.

The home side cruised to a target of 249 with a massive eight overs to spare, Trescothick hitting an unbeaten 111 and Jos Buttler finishing on 51 not out.

Lancashire had made 248-6 after being invited to bat first, with acting captain Steven Croft hitting 107 off 109 balls, with 8 fours and a six, his maiden one-day century. Lewis Gregory took 4-40, his second successive four-wicket haul in the competition.

The total proved inadequate as Trescothick blasted 3 sixes and 11 fours, having initially played second fiddle to opening partner Peter Trego, who faced only 18 balls and hit 4 fours and 2 sixes in an explosive 32 to get the innings launched.

After the game Marcus said: "I just left it to Pete at the start. When he is playing like that it gives us great momentum and we never looked back. It was another excellent team performance and it's a shame in a way that we now have a break in this competition until after the Twenty20 because we are on a really good run."
